INTRODUCTION:

To assure your complete satisfaction Olde English recommends you read through our price list thoroughly to acquaint yourself with our made-to-order product options, order and freight policies before placing your order.

Olde English provides new furniture that looks truly old. It does not compete, nor can its products be compared with those of more standard furniture manufacturers. Please be sure to acquaint yourself with our look and our unique hand-applied finishes.

Please also note that for sound construction, we sometimes combine pine with other woods like maple, poplar, birch, select hardwood sheet goods. This practice, very common in antique furniture, may result in finish variations. These variations are not defects and contribute to the character, singularity and charm of each individual piece. Some painted pieces may include engineered wood. We reserve the right to make changes in styles, materials and construction of these products without notice. Contact customer service with inquiries concerning the woods used for individual items.

Olde English pieces are made of kiln-dried wood and manufactured in a humidity-controlled facility. Wood is a living product and can be affected by environmental conditions. Low humidity can result in shrinkage, cracking or warping. These responses to the environment are not defects but rather a natural result of exposure to certain environmental conditions. This product should be maintained in a steady humidity level environment (between 30%-65%) according to the specifications & norms of the woodworking and furniture industry. Relative humidity outside the recommended range is considered excessive exposure and voids Olde English warranty. Humidifiers and air conditioners will help to manage seasonal changes in humidity. Avoid placing furniture in direct sunlight.

ABOUT PINE/KNOTS

Many Olde English pieces are constructed from kiln-dried Eastern White Pine, which, by nature, is "knotty." Knots are very evident, and charming on pieces finished in Light English Pine, Irish Pine Medium, Highlands Pine, Provincial Cherry, less so, although still visible, on Stripped Pine. While we make every effort to seal knots before applying painted finishes, knots may be discernible and will occasionally "bleed" through, particularly on paler colors. This is a normal result of the aging process and is not a defect but can occur in items of this nature. These unique features can add charm and character to the piece. Option: Many pieces are also available in selected hardwoods, which are not "knotty".

OLDE ENGLISH FINISHES

Because all Olde English finishes are hand-applied, they will vary from piece to piece. Such variation must be expected, and from the point of view of the antique lovers who make up most of our customer base, is highly desirable. Catalog finish images and samples of both standard and custom colors indicate general color only and do not represent either the exact color or application technique that will be present on a given piece of furniture. (We reserve the right to make changes to improve the finishes without notice). We reserve the right to add colors and finishes without general notification. Over time environmental conditions may affect finish. **Stains are particularly prone to wide color variation, even on the same item.

CHARACTERISTICS OF ENGLISH PINE LIGHT, HIGHLANDS PINE, & STRIPPED PINE.

•English Pine Light is pine that has been sanded and waxed. As it ages the piece becomes deeper in color and the knots darken somewhat.
• Highlands Pine like English Pine Light features the natural character of the wood. Unlike EPL, which is waxed only, HP is a lacquer finish, deeper in color, glazed and waxed. In addition random distress markings highlighted by the glaze gives it a beautiful "rich" authentic look.
• Stripped Pine offers a buffed appearance with knots that are less prominent. The multi-step process on pine includes a stained lacquer which is finished with a hand-applied wax. This finish adds depth to the character of the pine and gives it a patina and authentic aged look that ordinarily could only be achieved after many years of waxing and aging over time.

Finishes

Stained
• English Pine Light, our original - and still most popular -finish. This traditional European hand-applied wax finish will deepen in color as it ages, resulting in a rich, antique-looking surface.
• Sanded and Unfinished for those who would like to apply their own finish. NOTE: Hardwood pieces are not available in English Pine Light. NOTE: See Sanded & Unfinished.

Painted

• Any single painted or waxed finish. * Irish Pine Medium (medium brown/red stain; available on pine only).
• Stripped Pine (available on pine only) * Highlands Pine (available on pine only) Antique White (off white) Black Linen White (more yellow than off white) Sky (pale blue) French Vanilla (a warm rich vanilla) Chambray (subtle, soft, velvety blue) Taupe (a soft neutral color) Antique Blue (a rich "old" blue) Buttercreme (soft buttery yellow) French Grey (muted, aged grey) Sunlight (a strong Provencal yellow) Wild Blueberry (a "French" Blue) Ivory (a rich yellow) Coral (darker shade of coral) Mustard (deep, rich & golden) English Cinnamon (spicy, between rust & coral) Celadon (soft, very French green) Terra Cotta (like a fired clay pot) Stone (French light grey green) China Red (vivid red) Seaglass (Mediterranean blue-green) Nutmeg (color of the spice, brown-grey) Olive Grove (dusty, muted green) Charcoal (a soft charcoal) Thistle (soft silver green) Driftwood (a pale-light grey) Thyme (like the dried herb, sage green) DISTRESSING- Edges can be rubbed to give your piece an aged look. This option is available at no additional charge. Please indicate with the order if you want distressing.

INTERIOR FINISHES

With the exception of Premium Distress finishes the INTERIORS of pieces including the inside of doors are stained/painted but NOT glazed like the exterior. Only open interiors i.e. open hutch shelves are glazed. If you want the interior to be finished contact customer service for the upcharge of this option. The request to finish the interior must be included when the order is placed. PAINTED & WAXED- Wax rather than glaze is hand-applied to create an authentic "aged" look.
